Live Norwegian King Crab
This is special…
Wild capture by 1 to 2 person boats in the extreme north of Norway.
Each crab is tagged with the fisherman ID and catch data. Please scan the tag with your customers to share the information!
The crab are kept in top health and monitored closely. It is vital that the animals do not have any stress. that will affect how they taste!
They are trucked to Oslo in specially designed live tanks.
The trucks are hydrogen powered to reduce fossil fuels - they do not fly except across the oceans.
The crab are kept in the top condition so that the chef gets a perfect animal.
They all arrive live to SF where we store them in special cold water live tanks. When we get the crab we bathe each one and check its health.
This keeps the small fishing community alive. They spread the work and have replaced the cod fishery (which collapsed) with crab as their livelihood. This is about the entire population, not just a few boat owners who go out with large ships and a crew.
Traceability
Caught by small artisanal fishermen (and women!) working in the Barents Sea. Each crab catch is tagged and traced specifically to each boat and fisherman who landed the crab.
Most boat owners are part-time crab fishermen. During the rest of the time they are fishing or tour operators, painters, business owners, mechanics, musicians and more. The community of Bugoynes is very small and tight knit with a population of less than 300 people.
Each crab comes with a code with a unique identification number. By scanning the code, the chef or end-user can find detailed landing captain and vessel information.
